 Konstantin Uralsky is a well-known ballet choreographer, instructor, and Artistic director. He has choreographed and restaged over two dozen classical ballets. He is a graduate of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy and, later graduated from the State Institute of Theatrical Arts (G.I.T.I.S) with a degree in choreography and teaching. He is a popular guest instructor for many schools throughout the United States.
With their company, Uralsky Dance Productions, Inc., Mr. Uralsky and his wife, Irina Vassileni-Uralsky, provide master classes, seminars, private coaching and choreography to professional ballet companies, ballet schools and universities nationwide. The caliber of their teaching always brings excitement to students and teachers alike. As part of their goal to advance the quality of classical ballet, they have also brought together a number of teachers from around the country to study classical methodology and dance pedagogy.
In 1998, Mr. And Mrs. Uralsky established the Russian Ballet School in Sea Cliff, New York. Their school follows the graded syllabus of Agrippina Vaganova (1871-1951), which is recognized worldwide as the foremost method of teaching ballet. The same year, their Russian Ballet School received the honor of being the first school in the United States to be accredited by the Russian Dance Association.
In April 1999, he was invited by UNICEF and the Russian Dance Association to return to Moscow to choreographed one-act ballet, "Street…" for the gala "Diamonds of World Ballet", which premiered to great enthusiasm at the State Kremlin Palace.
Mr. Uralsky moved to the United States in 1990, when he was invited to become the Artistic Director for Ballet Iowa in Des Moines, Iowa. He held the position from 1991 to 1997 during which time he oversaw all artistic elements for the company and school. He choreographed over two dozen original works and restaged many nineteenth century classical ballets. Among the original works are: Doctor Zhivago, a two act ballet; Thinking of Petrushka; Macbeth, a two act ballet; More Than Two to Tango; Adagio; Snow White, a two act ballet; I Got Rhythm; Carmen Suite; Romeo and Juliet, a two act ballet; The Nutcracker, a two act ballet; Birds. In addition, Mr. Uralsky coached all the dancers in the company, from principals to the corps de ballet.
Mr. Uralsky began his training at the age of ten at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy (Moscow Academic Choreographic School) in Moscow, Russia. Upon graduation in 1978, he joined the Bolshoi Ballet. During his decade with the company, he toured world-wide performing in Romeo and Juliet, The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Ivan the Terrible, Much Ado About Nothing, Macbeth, Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Spartacus, and many others.
It was during this time he returned to the academic world to pursue a career as an instructor and choreographer. Mr. Uralsky attended the National Institute of Theatrical Arts (GITIS) studying Choreography, Composition of Classical Ballet, Classical Repertoire, Composition of Character and Folk Dance, and other disciplines. In addition, Mr. Uralsky studied Modern Dance and Jazz at the Palucca School in Dresden, Germany.
